Retirement from a long teaching career has given Richard the time and impetus to pursue his love of pen drawing and the occasional foray into gouache and pastel techniques. His inspiration has come from a number of different sources with the work of Frank Patterson and Alfred Wainwright proving major influences.
The British landscape has provided ready material for interpretation and on his frequent travels, he is constantly looking for interesting and relevant structures to photograph and then translate into black and white artwork, using fine liner pens to introduce the necessary tones and textures.
A native of the West Midlands, he moved to North Norfolk with his family, from West London. Here, his work was regularly exhibited. Richard, had two pictures chosen for his first IEA Open Exhibition in 2017 and another the following year, when he was selected to become a Provisional IEA member.
