Mary Thatcher AIEA


Mary is an artist based in North Norfolk. She originally trained in illustration where life drawing was a major part of the course. Being able to combine art and people she then did a post-graduate course in Art Therapy. Alongside her work, as a therapist, Mary continued to paint and draw.

Using oil paint, pastel or charcoal Mary’s passion is working with the human form, either portraiture or figures in motion.

“I want my paintings to convey the story of the person or persons portrayed. Capturing colour light and movement are essential aspects of my work”.


Mary’s paintings have been exhibited throughout the UK:

The Ferens Open Exhibition, Hull

The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists (Portraiture Prize Exhibition 2017).

The Holt Art Prize (Norfolk 2015 & 2016).

The Connection Open (The Malting’s Handa Gallery, Norfolk   2018)

The IEA Open Exhibition (The Gallery, Holt, Norfolk) Exhibited work for the past 6 years gaining her current membership of Associate.

Her work is in collections in America, Australia, France, Italy and London.  She has also had work preselected for the ROI and the Pastel Society.

She exhibits on a regular basis at The Old Workshop Gallery in Corpusty, Norfolk and participates in the Norfolk Open Studios scheme.
