Bob Brandt FIEA

In 1993, Bob retired from legal practice in Bristol and became a full-time painter, studying life painting at the Bristol School of Art & Design and starting to hold exhibitions in the West of England.

He has been teaching the craft of painting to adult classes and workshops for more than twenty-five years and has contributed to arts books and magazines published in the United States and the United Kingdom.

In 2012 Bob was invited to become a founder member of the lEA and in due course became its second president. Now a Fellow of the IEA, he continues his association with the Institute and with The Gallery in Lees Yard in Holt.

Over the years, Bob has had paintings selected for exhibitions by both the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal Society of Marine Artists in The Mall Galleries in London. He has exhibited widely in commercial galleries in the West Country and Norfolk and Suffolk, as well as London.

Bob’s paintings are in many private collections in the UK, mainland Europe, the USA and Australia. His subjects vary widely but his preferred subjects are narrative paintings, recording record moments of personal interest and pleasure and celebrating the changing times in which we live.

Bob currently acts as Advisor to the IEA as well as Internal Auditor. He was also the IEA President (March 2017 – March 2019).
