Mary was originally trained as an illustrator. Later she decided to combine Art and people by training to be an Art Therapist on the postgraduate course at The Hertfordshire School of Art and Design. In recent years she has been working part-time in object conservation, thus affording her time to concentrate on her painting. After moving to Norfolk from Tunbridge Wells in 1990 in the pursuit of more space for the family, workshop and studio, Mary felt she had everything in place to fulfil her dream of working as an artist.
Working in oil paint, pastel or charcoal Mary’s passion is to depict people in a scene and portraiture. Colour, light and movement are essential aspects of her paintings.
Mary is a regular participant in the Norfolk Open Studios scheme; she also regularly exhibits at The Old Workshop Gallery, Corpusty. Mary has been selected for the IEA Open Exhibition for the past three years and has twice had her work shortlisted for The Holt Art Prize. Mary runs monthly life drawing/painting days and teaches a portraiture group.
