In 1993, Bob retired from legal practice in Bristol and became a full-time painter, studying life painting at the Bristol School of Art & Design and starting to hold exhibitions in the West of England.
He has been teaching the craft of painting to adult classes and workshops for more than twenty years and contributing to arts books and magazines published in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Having moved to Norfolk in 1995 to pursue his interests in painting and sailing, Bob was invited eight years ago to become a founder member of the IEA, in due course becoming its second president.
Over the years, Bob has had work selected for exhibitions by both the Royal Institute of Oil Painters and the Royal Society of Marine Artists in The Mall Galleries in London. Having retired as president, and becoming now a Fellow of the IEA, Bob continues his association with the Institute and with The Gallery in Lees Yard in Holt.
Painting mainly in oils and in a representational style, Bob’s paintings are in many private collections in the UK, the USA, mainland Europe and Australia. His subjects vary widely but he chooses to record moments of personal interest and pleasure, in order to celebrate the changing times in which we live.
